Hank Rearden in comparison to Steve Jobs

Hank Rearden, seems to me, is like Steve Jobs, he is a man whose sole purpose in life has been to create something legendary that will change the world. He is a person who puts everything else aside, family, social life, relationships, children, and even money in order to fulfill his life's dream of changing the world. In his eyes, like Jobs' the only thing that is of importance in life is creating a product that will be different from everything else on the market and that will appeal to the consumer because of its superior quality. Like Jobs, Rearden allows himself to be distanced from family, friends, and even himself to create this product. He spends his entire life in a prolonged trial and error process and after numerous years of failure after failure, he finally succeeds and it is magical to him. Unlike Jobs, he is the only one in his family to be excited about this and he becomes disappointed when his family does not share in his success. Rearden’s family creates a barrier between themselves and Rearden because they realize that they are not a priority in his life. In many ways the story of this fictional entrepreneur and the real one parallel each other because they both realize their dreams at aroun the same stage in life. Now, to comment on the novel as a whole, so far I believe that it is a great story about how we should be careful not to let money and ambition take over our lives because that will dehumanize us and isolate us from those we love.
