The news was created for the people. This was so that they may learn about what is happening around them and for them to decide how to react on it. However, the original idea that all news must be shared for the betterment of the community has slowly died off where the media is actually being used by individuals who use it for their own political gain. The news has turned into nothing but a pack of deceitful puppet-masters who use the ability of the news to broadcast across the globe so that they may sway the opinions of the people in their favor. The "deceitful" truth is illustrated in the novel on p. 204 when Eddie Willers was talking with another worker: Willers was describing the John Galt Line's success and how there was nothing in the newspapers because of its success. Most people believe the obvious disguise that the news pulls when in public but, very few realize the disgraceful actions that the news carries out behind closed doors. Therefore, it can be concluded that the news has not changed and a problem that must be dealt with. For example, the news story behind the Zimmerman trial was very one-sided. Almost the whole of America believed Zimmerman to be a racist and a killer. I can see how people can see that though because of how the news portrayed the images of the defendant and the victim: Zimmerman's mugshot was compared to a fourteen year old Trayvon. Trayvon was seventeen when he passed away. So, why didn't the news show a picture of Zimmerman when he was fourteen to compare with the fourteen year old image of Trayvon? Because then the story wouldn't sell and because there was someone controlling the news. However, while the news concentrates solely on the Zimmerman case, an African-American woman named Mona Yvette Nelson was charged with kidnapping twelve year old, Jonathan Foster, on Christmas eve and burning him to death with a blowtorch but, the news doesn't let us know about that. We face a serious problem that Ayn Rand displays, briefly, in her novel that should be taken more seriously and should be dealt with as soon as possible.
